Dr. Bach-Kim Nguyen

Dr. Nguyen was born in Vietnam. She grew up during the Vietnam War in a family of ten children. After the communist government took away her dream of becoming a medical doctor, she escaped from Vietnam, alone, seeking freedom and a medical career. She was rescued by the U.S. Navy, and as a result, she was allowed to settle in the United States as a refugee. She spent the next thirteen years in the U.S. learning English and getting a first class education.

She completed liberal art studies at City College of San Francisco, finished a Bachelor Degree in Biochemistry from University of California at Davis, and achieved a Bachelor Degree in Visual Science and a Doctor of Optometry Degree, both from the University of California at Berkeley. After practicing for many different commercial and private optometry and ophthalmology practices, Dr. Nguyen purchased Walnut Creek Optometry Group in 1997. In 2002 she bought Dr. Lyn Owens’s practice and merged the two together. In 2003 Dr. Nguyen obtained a 25 year old practice in Vallejo from Dr. Bernard Deschuytter and invited Drs. Tammy Hong, Kaneshiro, Wong, and Jones to work with her.

Dr. Nguyen practices the full scope of optometry and has experience in comprehensive eye examinations, all advanced contact lens fittings, eye disease treatment, visual efficiency and perceptual examinations, vision therapy, and co-manages for laser vision correction (LASIK, PRK), cataract surgery, and glaucoma.

Along with having excellent clinical skills, Dr. Nguyen also has great people skills. She is extremely sensitive to patients needs and concerns. She has a warm personality, a good sense of humor, and a truly caring attitude. Patients can really tell how much she loves her work!
